From the Archives: Vehicle Fire #1

During operation, a minivan caught fire. The fire was contained, only damaging the passenger side of the vehicle. An ACS Engineer investigated and found that a failure in the air conditioner compressor clutch pulley caused the fire. When the clutch failed, the serpentine belt continued to attempt to turn the compressor. The pulley surface then became hot enough from friction to ignite contacting combustible materials.
